Adding a WordPress contact form to your website is an effective way to gather information from your visitors. Whether you’re capturing orders, survey responses, or just general inquiries, a well-designed contact form is essential. In this tutorial, we’ll walk you through the process of creating a contact form using WPForms, a popular WordPress plugin.

Installing WPForms

  1. Navigate to Plugins > Add New and search for “WPForms“.
  2. Click on “Install Now” next to WPForms.
  3. After installation, click “Activate”.

Tip: WPForms also offers a quick walkthrough tutorial when you first launch it. Feel free to go through it to get a feel for the plugin.

Creating Your First WordPress Contact Form

  1. Navigate to WPForms > Add New on your WordPress dashboard.
  2. Choose a template for your form. For this tutorial, we’ll start with a blank form.
  3. Name your form. For demonstration purposes, we’ll name it “Contact Form”.

Note: WPForms offers a variety of templates in its Pro version, which can save you time and offer more customization options.

Adding and Customizing Fields

  1. Drag and drop the fields you want to include in your form. For a basic contact form, you might want to include:
    • Name
    • Email
    • Dropdown for type of inquiry
    • Paragraph for additional information
  2. Customize each field by clicking on it. This will open the field options on the left.
    • Change the label
    • Set whether the field is required
    • Add a description or placeholder text

Tip: You can easily reorder the fields by dragging them around.

Adjusting Form Settings

  1. Navigate to Settings on the left sidebar.
  2. Update the submit button text and processing text.
  3. Enable or disable spam protection. WPForms has built-in spam protection enabled by default.

Note: The Pro version allows for multiple notifications and more advanced settings.

Adding Notifications

  1. Navigate to Notifications under Settings.
  2. Update the email subject, from name, and other details for the notification email you’ll receive when someone submits the form.

Confirmation Settings

After your visitor submits the form, it’s good practice to send them a confirmation message. This assures them that their submission was successful.

  1. Navigate to Settings > Confirmation in your WPForms dashboard.
  2. Customize the confirmation message that will be displayed to the user upon successful submission. You can include a thank-you note or any other information you find relevant.

Tip: Personalizing the confirmation message can enhance user experience and provide immediate feedback to the user.

Adding Your Form to WordPress

  1. Navigate to Pages > Add New on your WordPress dashboard (or the page you want to add your form).
  2. Insert the WPForms block by clicking the black plus icon and searching for WPForms.
  3. Select your newly created contact form.
  4. Adjust the style of your form within the block editor, including changing the size, border radius, and colors.
