What is the tutorial about?
Personalization is key so this tutorial is all about adding your own unique fonts for WordPress. Jamie Marsland, a seasoned WordPress expert, takes us on a fun and creative journey to design personalized fonts using a fantastic service called Calligrapher. This tutorial is perfect for beginners, requiring no technical knowledge.
Tutorial Steps
- Create a Calligrapher Account:
Visit the Calligrapher website and create an account. - Download the Template:
Once logged in, navigate to “Create a Template” and select “Minimal English”. Click on “Download Template” and save it as a PDF on your computer. - Fill Out the Template:
Print out the downloaded template and fill out the letters and punctuation marks using a pen or pencil. Make sure to fill out both uppercase and lowercase letters. - Upload the Template:
Take a photo of your filled-out template, making sure to include the guide marks in the corners of the photograph. Upload this photo to the Calligrapher website by navigating to “My Fonts” and clicking on “Upload Template”. - Add Characters to Your Font:
Once the photo is uploaded and processed, you can preview your font. If you’re satisfied with the result, click on “Add Characters to Your Font”. - Build the Font:
Click on “Build Font” to generate the font file. You can then download this file in either TTF or OTF format. - Upload the Font to WordPress:
Log into your WordPress website and install the “Create Block Theme” plugin. Navigate to “Appearance” > “Manage Theme Fonts” and click on “Add Local Font”. Upload the font file you downloaded from Calligrapher. The same process is applicable to the “Custom Fonts” plugin. - Apply the Font:
Go to the site editor and click on “Styles”. Navigate to “Text” > “Typography” and select your new font from the dropdown menu. - Preview Your Website:
Check your website to see how it looks with your new, personalized font.
