4 Methods to Change the Font in WordPress

Play Video

To change the font in WordPress can be a straightforward process, but it can also make a significant impact on your website’s appearance and readability. In this tutorial, we’ll explore four methods to change fonts in WordPress.

1. Changing Fonts in the Site Editor (Block Themes)

  1. Navigate to Appearance > Site Editor to access the Site Editor. This method is suitable for block themes like 2023, Divi, and Brixie.
  2. Click on the Styles icon on the left sidebar or find the Styles icon on your page.
  3. Select Typography and choose the text element you want to modify.
  4. Adjust settings like size, spacing, line height, and decorations.
  5. Preview the changes and click Save when satisfied.

Tip: The preview text within this section updates in real-time, allowing you to see how the font will appear on your site.

2. Changing Fonts in the Page Editor (WordPress.com)

  1. Navigate to Pages from your WordPress.com dashboard and click on any page to edit it.
  2. Click the Global Styles icon.
  3. Select from the two dropdown menus: Heading Font and Base Font.
  4. Preview the changes and click Publish to save them.

Note: Recommended font pairings are displayed below the dropdown menus, which can be helpful if you’re unsure which fonts to choose.

3. Changing Fonts in the Customizer (Classic Themes)

  1. Navigate to Appearance > Customize to access the Customizer. This method works for classic themes.
  2. Navigate to Global > Typography to find font settings.
  3. Choose a font preset or customize body and heading fonts by clicking the pencil icon.
  4. Adjust other settings like paragraph margins.
  5. Preview the changes and click Publish to save them.

Tip: Not all classic themes support changing fonts directly. If your theme doesn’t, you can use a plugin like Easy Google Fonts (explained in the next step).

4. Adding Custom Fonts Using Plugins

  1. Install and activate the Easy Google Fonts plugin via the dashboard.
  2. Navigate to Appearance > Customize.
  3. Click Typography > Default Typography to start customizing your website’s font and text style.

Note: This plugin works with any classic WordPress theme and lets you choose from hundreds of free font options from Google Fonts.

Change the font in WordPress – Conclusion

Changing the font in WordPress can be done in multiple ways, depending on the type of theme you’re using. Whether you’re using a block theme, a WordPress.com blog, or a classic theme, you have options to customize the typography to better align with your brand’s identity and improve readability.
